Flag Day ceremony held in Spring
By Ferdinand Zogbaum, Reporter

HERNANDO COUNTY --
For a lot of people June 14th can pass by unnoticed, but for some
folks in Hernando County the 14th was a time to honor our nation's flag.
The flag of the United States. It's history runs deep and a date was
set aside years ago to honor it. June 14th is Flag Day.
The folks at VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill made sure they paid their
respect. They held a Flag Day ceremony on Sunday. Old Glory is 238 years
old. Post Commander Wayne Tuttle said it means a lot.
"Freedom," he said. "The right to give you my opinion just as well as
the right for you to give me your opinion."
Way back on June 14th 1777, the Stars and Stripes became the official
flag of the United States. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed
June 14 Flag Day and Congress made it official in 1949.
Post Quartermaster Robert Ross says a lot of people forget about Flag
"There are a lot of people that are not aware of it I'm sure," he
said. "A lot of people have other lives too. We wish they all would be
here but unfortunately that's not how it works."
Ross said that's the reason they held a ceremony. He said it's a
reminder, a way of letting people know that June 14th isn't just another
"That flag will fly for many, many years to come," he said.
